PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Hello Parkland Friends!

We are so blessed to live in our beautiful City of Parkland! As with most communities, the
Parkland Library is the heartbeat of the city, the gem in our proverbial crown! Unlike most
communities, however, our library is different and needs your support.

Did you know that the City of Parkland Library is not a county operated library like most
libraries in Broward? The City of Parkland Library is an independent library. It is up to each one
of us, as Parklanders, to support our Library. The mission of the Friends of the Parkland Library
is to collaborate with the City of Parkland leadership, the Parkland Library leadership, and the
city of Parkland residents to sponsor relevant and meaningful programs, special projects,
volunteer efforts, and help in any way we can.

In 1988, Mrs. Carolyn Marks paved the way for the development of the first Parkland Library.
Through much insight, hard work, and dedication, Mrs. Mark’s and the City Commission
planned and created the library we enjoy today. Through continued efforts and community
support, a new Children's Wing broke ground in 2018. Our library is a very special and happy
place thanks to those who took the time to care.

Have you been to visit the Parkland Library lately? Have you participated in one of their book
clubs or learning programs? Have you visited an art exhibit, learned to play canasta or mah-
jongg, learned to meditate or even how to cook there? Have you checked out a book recently?
Have your teens volunteered at the library to earn community service hours? Have they learned
to draw cartoons, play bingo, or learned mindful meditation? Have your younger children
attended a story time, been to a STEM class, participated in chess club, or a Lego event? Have
you noticed the amazing bronze art statues in the front of the building or the personalized brick

paver in the back patio? Have you seen the renovated library building or beautiful architecture and

interior design of the new children’s wing? The Parkland Library has so much to offer! In addition

to these examples, our library is a beautiful and a quiet space filled with a wonderful collection of books

for adults, teens and children of all ages. I hope you will enjoy these opportunities!

The Parkland Library needs community support! You can support the library by supporting the
Parkland Friends of the Library. Make your donation today!  We hope that you will consider
joining us at an upcoming event or become an active member of the Friends in addition to
donating.  Together, we can strengthen and enhance our beautiful library through collaboration,
friendship, volunteering, and fundraising.  Become a Friend Today!

Thank you for your support and I am looking forward to seeing you at the Parkland Library!

Your Friend,

Sharry Kimmel
