August Events 2010
August 2 – August 31 Parkland Library Book Mark Contest
Children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade can design a book mark for the Parkland Library. Pick up an entry form at the library and get creative! The designs must be in black and white only. Each month, a new winning bookmark will be displayed. Entries must be turned in by August 31st.
Monday, August 2 10:30am Knit ‘n’ Knowledge
Want to learn how to knit? Here’s your pass to knitting class! Join others at the Parkland Library as we learn the basics of knitting! New beginners should arrive early at 10:00am and will need to bring two size 8 knitting needles and yarn. Others may bring a 24” circular knitting needle and two yarns to make a hat. Try out a knitting or craft related book while you are at it. Registration required. 954 757-4200
Wednesday, August 4 3:00pm Creative Kids: Story and Craft Mix Up
Dive into the library for a fun story and then select a craft to create with friends. Ages 8 and up. Registration required. 954 757-4200
Monday, August 9 2:00pm End of Summer Ice Cream Social
End your summer with a splash at the library! Create your own ice cream sundae and create a seaworthy craft. Try our water ball toss game and get a fishy tattoo. Then line up to meet our super splashy special guest! Bring your camera and autograph book! This event is sponsored by TD Bank. Ages 2 and up. Registration required. 954 757-4200
Tuesday, August 10 3:00pm Tales to Tails
Come to the Parkland Library and read to Leyna and Elvis. Children can gain confidence in their reading skills by reading to a pet therapy dog and miniature horse. This program is for children 5 to 12 years old. Registration required. 954 757-4200
Wednesday, August 11 2:00pm Fairytale Theater Puppet Show
Enter the library’s world of make believe with stories, songs and an exciting puppet show. Ages 3 and up. Registration required.954 757-4200
Saturday, August 14 10am-1pm Used Book Sale in the Library Lobby. Coffee Bar open. Sponsored by Parkland Friends of the Library.
Monday, August 16 2:00pm Cool Off with A Good Book
Join other middle and high school kids at the library and chat about your favorite book of the summer. Choose a free brand new book for coming and make your own ice cream creation. (Middle & High School kids only) Registration required. 954 757-4200
Tuesday, August 17 1:30pm Game Day (Age 5 and up)
Meet old friends or make new ones and have fun playing board games at the library. Registration required. 954 757-4200
Saturday, August 28 10:30am Summer Best Book Brunch
This will be the climax of our “Water Your Mind: READ!” Adult Summer Reading Club. Come share your favorite book of the summer. Brunch will be served. Bring your completed reading logs to be entered in the grand prize drawing. Sponsored by Parkland Friends of the Library. No fee but registration required by August 20th. 954 757-4200
Storytime Registration August 30 – September 1
During this three day period you may register your child’s name on our numbered storytime class lottery list. There will be a separate list for each class. You may register each child’s name only once per class. Numbers will be drawn and all selected participants will be notified by September 7th. You must be a Parkland Library cardholder to register. Please bring your library card or provide us with your card number. Register in person or call the library at 954 757-4200.
Calling All Authors!!
City of Parkland Library will be presenting our 5th Annual Author Showcase on November 13. If you are a published author of adult literature and would like to participate, please call Wendy Peppercorn at 954 757-4207 or email at wpeppercorn@cityofpeppercorn.org. Each author will have a chance to speak and sell autographed copies of their book
